Becoming A Podcaster.

Make And Launch A Podcast In One Hour Or Less

Benefits Of Podcasting

Before starting your podcast lets just breakdown why it is the new essential channel to your digital marketing strategy. Radio once dominate audio but those days are long gone and with the recent pandemic there has been an explosion of new podcasts. Tie this in with the increase in voice technologies like Alexa and Google HOME its easy for podcasts to be heard this channel is growing quickly. Many companies hire content writers and influences to inspire and drive traffic to there business through blogs but are now looking towards podcasters and their audiences. These partnerships are a great way to connect with your target audience, but also starting your businesses own podcast gives you a chance to connect with your customers and reach new customers more directly.

In this blog, I’ll break down how I created and put a podcast live in one hour or less. But before you get started if you don’t listen to podcasts I recommend listening to some of the most popular ones.

How To Do Your Own Podcast

Firstly you need to pick a topic you think needs to be discussed and your audience will engage with. The best way I find to this is to list key subjects in regards to your businesses. Then look online how often they are discussed and if there are any podcasts already out there.

Recording

When it comes to the recording you don’t need fancy mics or earphones you can easily do it through your phone or laptop. You can record solo or ask someone else to join you if you feel it suits the format and discussion points better.

If you’re not much of a public speaker don’t worry. Approach the podcast like you’re talking to a friend that personal touch will reflect with your audience. You can record a couple if you want but a one take is more natural and you can also edit but keeping in mistakes can be a great talking point in future podcasts.

When it comes to the length of recording I think you should look to start with 10-30 minutes depending on the subject. I only recommend this as with most free podcast services you will only have 4-8 hours free space before you have to start paying. So for a first series keep the episodes short so you can release more episodes. Of course, this might not work for your topic so it might make sense to invest or do fewer episodes but more spaced out.

Uploading

There are a number of platforms you can add your podcast to but in my opinion the best is Spreaker. Just follow the instructions and it won’t take long. You should get approval fairly quickly then you can your customers to this website or get the embed code to put this on your own website.

When you’ve uploaded you will get an ‘RSS Feed’ web address, you will need to copy this address then you can link your podcast to Spotify and Google Podcasts Manager. They should both get approved pretty quickly and the instructions for both are pretty simple to follow.

You can also upload the feed to iTunes if you want but this can take a couple of days for approval. If you don’t have an Apple ID login you will need to create one. It can take a couple of attempts before it gets approved. You could also convert your MP3 audio to an MP4 video and upload it to YouTube.

Sharing

When your podcast is live, now it’s time to get listeners! So make sure to share your podcast on social and email marketing channels. If you find any forums online that share the interest of your podcast subject it could be worth sharing it in there too.
